When you rent a chair, you are not an employee with a nicer schedule. You are a business owner. You set your prices, buy your product, find your own clients, pay your own taxes, and live with your own no-shows. The salon gives you a station. Everything else is on you.
That is why the software you run your chair on matters more than most booth renters think. The right setup keeps your book full and your money clean. The wrong one quietly costs you clients, fees, and hours.
Here is what to look for in booth renter software, and the questions to ask before you commit.
Why Booth Renters Need Their Own Software
Many renters start on the salon’s system. It feels easy: the calendar is already there and clients already know the booking link. But think about what happens if you move.
- Your client list: If your clients live in the salon’s account, you may not be able to take their contact details, visit history, or notes with you.
- Your money: If payments run through the salon, you depend on someone else’s payout schedule and records at tax time.
- Your brand: If clients book through the salon’s page, they are building a relationship with the salon’s name, not yours.
Your own account means your own clients, your own payouts, and a clean record of what you earned. It also makes the move painless if you change salons, which most renters eventually do.

The Seven Things Booth Renter Software Should Do
- Online booking that works at 11:00 PM. Clients book when they think of it, usually after hours. A booking link in your Instagram bio should let them pick a service, see real availability, and confirm without messaging you.
- Deposits and card on file. When you are the only person who loses money on a no-show, a deposit or a card on file is not optional. See our deposit policy guide and template.
- Reminders you do not have to send. Text and email reminders that let clients confirm or reschedule in one tap.
- Client profiles that travel with you. Formulas, lash maps, allergies, preferences, photos, and visit history, all in an account you own.
- Payments with clear, flat rates. Know exactly what you pay per transaction and when the money lands.
- Simple reporting. Revenue, rebooking rate, and top services, so you know whether a price increase or a new service is working.
- A price that fits one chair. You do not need software built for a 12-chair salon and priced like it.
Do the Math on What You Pay
Monthly price is only part of what booth renter software costs. Add these up:
- Subscription: the monthly plan fee.
- Processing: your rate times your card volume, plus any monthly merchant account fee. At $8,000 a month in card payments, every 0.1% is $8 a month, or $96 a year.
- Add-ons: text reminders, marketing, forms, or a branded app that cost extra.
- Marketplace fees: some platforms charge a commission on new clients they send you. Read the fine print.
Compare total monthly cost, not the headline price. A cheap plan with paid add-ons and per-text fees can cost more than a complete plan.
Questions to Ask Before You Switch
- Can I export my full client list and history if I leave?
- Are there per-text or per-reminder fees?
- Do you charge a commission on clients I bring myself?
- What are the in-person and online processing rates, and when do payouts arrive?
- Will you move my existing clients and appointments for me?
That last question matters. Switching feels like a lot of work, which is why many renters stay on tools that do not fit. Emvari’s Concierge team handles data transfer for free on every plan, including Core.
How Emvari Fits a Booth Renter
Emvari’s Core plan is built for solo artists and booth renters at $29 a month. It is designed around the chair you actually run: online booking with card on file (booking deposits are coming in 2027), reminders, client profiles you own, and payments at 2.6% + 10¢ in person and 3.4% + 15¢ online, plus a $15/month merchant account fee once payments are live. No setup, PCI, or statement fees.
Solo artists and booth renters get access first. Our beta starts November 15, 2026. Compare plans.
